A journey from knowledge to hope

On 13th May 1968 Gunner Noel Lyes and I were on sentry at the battle of Coral during the Vietnam war. We survived that battle considering and sadly when 25 Australians were killed at that action. A few weeks later Noel Lyes shot himself in our tent June 1968. It took me 10 years to bring myself around to visit his grave. We got no counselling on Noels death. I returned to Vietnam for a second tour of duty and I was asked to try and find out how Noels death had happened. In 1987 I asked a Senior military officer what was the outcome of Noels death.....he replied it is a very sensitive topic. Its 2014 I still don't know the outcome of his death. It is shameful when ANZAC Governments hide information from their fighting men and women. I really feel for Noels family because he was a well trained and skilled professional regular force ANZAC soldier. My mind and heart still suffer his loss.

Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them."
